Serving Personal Injury Clients Throughout California

Scaffolds

Scaffolds by their nature are dangerous because of the height involved, whether they are suspended from a roof or anchored to the ground. When the proper safety precautions for scaffolding are ignored at a construction site, serious injury or death can result. “An estimated 2.3 million construction workers, or 65 percent of the construction industry, work on scaffolds frequently. Protecting these workers from scaffold-related accidents would prevent 4,500 injuries and 50 deaths every year.”***

If you or your loved one is the victim of a scaffolding accident, you need strong legal representation to help get you the compensation you need for medical bills, lost wages and suffering. At Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP, we combine a lifetime of experience in the construction industry with well-honed advocacy skills. We seek justice for people who have been injured because of negligence.

Our lawyers handle cases involving:

  • Unsecured scaffold flooring
  • Overloading of the scaffold, causing collapse
  • Falls from elevated heights
  • Falling tools or debris
  • Wrongful death

If your loved one or you were the victim of a scaffolding injury, we urge you to seek prompt legal counsel. There are time limitations for filing a lawsuit against the people, company or companies that caused your accident.

OSHA Violations

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), scaffolding violations made the top of its list of safety violations for 2009, with more than 9,000 reported violations.

OSHA specifies standards for the design of scaffolding systems, such as the size of planks on a work level, and for fall protection, such as guardrails. Its regulations also specify the distance between scaffolding and power lines to avoid electrocution hazards. Another safety guideline is using toe boards to prevent falling objects like building materials, tools and other construction equipment from injuring workers below.

Product Liability

If your scaffolding accident occurred because of a malfunction of mechanical equipment, we can help you pursue a product liability claim.

We believe that accidents are preventable. As experienced construction law and personal injury attorneys, we have the technical know-how to skillfully investigate all potential sources of negligence in your case and pursue just claims.
